Condoms, provided by the HIV/AIDS Program of the Office of Public Health, are made available at no cost, at a variety of convenient community locations such as beauty shops, bars, grocery stores, etc.
The Office of Public Health funds this intervention through a grant from the federal Centers of Disease Control (CDC). Condom availability locations are selected by using data that can help identify areas with high rates of STD’s or HIV. It is these areas that are targeted with the no cost condom distribution.
Staff from NO/AIDS, as well as staff from other agencies funded under this program, visit these locations on a regular basis to ensure that condoms are not being sold, that they are being given out properly and available to the populations targeted by this program.
